Call for Applications: Harvard-Yenching Institute Visiting Scholars Program
The Harvard-Yenching Institute Visiting Scholars Program offers an exceptional opportunity for faculty members in the fields of humanities and social sciences (including but not limited to Chinese Studies, East Asian Studies, History, Philosophy, Sociology, Anthropology, Religion, Gender Studies, Literature, and Regional Studies) to pursue research at Harvard University and/or other affiliated institutions in the United States.
Duration: 10 months (August 2026 – May 2027)
Objective: To support academic research with an international perspective, particularly research relevant to Asia.
Fellowship Coverage:

Round-trip economy-class airfare
-
Monthly living stipend of USD 7,725 for 10 months

Health insurance support (up to USD 5,500)
-
Supplemental funding (up to USD 5,000) for:

Hiring a research assistant or editor

Attending academic conferences
-
Conducting fieldwork in North America

Eligibility Criteria:
-
Must have served as a full-time faculty member for at least 3 years (as of August 1, 2023)
-
Did not earn a doctoral degree from a non-Asian university within the past 5 years (after 2021)
-
Has never received a HYI Visiting Scholar fellowship before

Former HYI fellows (Doctoral, Visiting Fellow, Training Program) may apply

Must hold a PhD or equivalent degree

Demonstrated English language proficiency

Must propose a clear, feasible research project relevant to the Harvard academic context
Applicants must be officially nominated by their home institution. Chiang Mai University may nominate up to 4 candidates.
